"Finding Our Strength" is Transcend The Binary's community-driven research initiative led by the transgender & gender non-conforming community.
The research findings were first presented in 2017 in an exhibition titled "Sharing Our Strength". Due to its overwhelming success the exhibition was brought back in summer 2018. Both exhibitions were presented at the Pittman-Puckett Gallery at Affirmations in Ferndale, Michigan.
Please visit Transcend The Binary's website for more information about the organization and exhibit.
I worked closely with another talented designer named Daniel Herrle to present TTB's Finding Our Strength survey data in the form of eight large hanging banners, which were first displayed at Affirmations in Ferndale, MI. After the inaugural exhibition in June 2018, this exhibition traveled to Oakland University in November of the same year, and later to University of Michigan's Institute of Social Research in April 2019.
Translating raw research data into something that can be understood by the average person can be extremely challenging. Presenting that information in a visually engaging format to be displayed in both gallery and academic settings is another challenge unto itself. It was extremely rewarding to successfully communicate and collaborate with researchers, and I would love to continue along this path in future projects.
